ToggleTools you need to paint your sweatshirt
To achieve a flawless and resistant design, make sure you have these materials:
- Fabric paint for garmentssuch as those of Nazca Colorswhich offer excellent adhesion and intense colors.
- Brushes of different thicknesses, for fine details and large fills.
- Sponges or rollers, ideal to achieve gradient effects or to apply paint uniformly.
- Pencil or erasable textile marker, to sketch your design before painting.
- Other materials: we also recommend having a painter’s tape or stencils on hand to mark out areas; a piece of cardboard to place inside the sweatshirt to prevent the paint from bleeding through; and an iron to fix the paint so that it lasts as long as possible.
Steps to paint a sweatshirt in a simple way
1. Prepare the fabric before starting
Wash the sweatshirt before painting to remove any factory or fabric softener residue that may affect the adhesion of the paint. Let it dry completely and place it on a flat surface.
Insert a cardboard or rigid plastic inside the sweatshirt to prevent the paint from transferring to the back of the sweatshirt.
2. Draw the design on the fabric
Use a pencil or erasable textile marker to trace the design. If you prefer a more precise finish, use stencils to create defined shapes.
3. Apply the paint in thin layers
- If you use brushes, apply the paint with soft movements and without overloading.
- If you use sponges, use small dabs to better distribute the color without saturating the fabric.
- Let each coat dry before applying another, especially if you are working with light colors on a dark sweatshirt.
Tip: If you are painting on a black or dark colored sweatshirt, first apply a coat of white paint to the areas where bright colors go. This will make them stand out better.
4. Let dry completely
Once the design is finished, let the paint dry for at least 12 hours or the time recommended by the manufacturer.

5. Fix the paint with heat
So that the design withstands washing and remains intact:
- Use an iron without steam, placing a thin cloth between the iron and the paint.
- Iron for 5 minutes in circular movements to fix the colors well.
